Is Your Place of Work a Gambling Influence?
Working in an environment where you are constantly exposed to gambling machines and other casino games could pose as a threat in terms of encouraging you to play time and time again.
After all, the games are just there waiting for you so might as well play them, right?
When you're surrounded by gamblers all the time and the games are always just there tempting you every step of the way; it's very likely that you will develop two opposing points of view.
One is that you will start playing first just for the sake of saying you've already tried it. Next, you will find yourself making excuses to play one of the games. It's either you're too stressed from work and you deserve a break.
You could also be saying, you want to reward yourself for a hard day's work. Or you could also say that this is a great time to bond with your workmates.
The second view you could take on is that you will find the whole gambling thing repulsive. You just can't see the point of playing and losing money; and then keep doing it. Families get broken, relationships and jobs lost; all because of an incontrollable gambling habit.
In both points of view; it's not only your own perception of gambling that made you decide this is the way you want to look at it. There are other factors that made you think this way about gambling.
The people you work with; the easily accessible games all around; and the gamblers themselves whose behaviors you have observed time and again; are all part of the reasons why you think like you do when it comes to gambling.
So yes, your workplace can be a huge influence on you when it comes to gambling. How you take this influence will determine whether you're gong to be heading south in the long run.
It's probably okay to play once in awhile but beware that your attitude towards gambling is that of detached fun. When you become too attached to it and to your wishful thinking that you're going to be hitting it big anytime soon; this is when gambling problems start to occur.
In the end, if you truly believe that working in an environment where gambling is an acceptable social behavior will only push you somewhere you don't want to go; better just look for another job.
You will have lost more if you stayed anyway.
